A delicious San Diego based brewery that is only twenty years old continues to produce show stopping IPA’s, Ale’s, and Porters. Let’s not forget about the ever popular Arrogant Bastard which has a following all in its own. Stone Brewing is rated as a “world class brewery” by Beer Advocate and its popularity is seen more and more even on the East Coast.
This is the second brewery I’ve mentioned on here (Evil Genius, The Takeover).
I first noticed Stone IPA about 5 years ago as I was getting ready to leave Ducktown Tavern in Atlantic City (2400 Atlantic Ave, Atlantic City NJ). On a side note stop in to Ducktown and say hi to John (owner who is always around) or Brian (one of the best bartenders in the state of NJ). Back to Stone, I was just getting done a long 13 hour double behind the bar and all I wanted was to get a nice 6-pack. I stumbled upon this beauty. Its a modest 6.9% ALC/VOL which is right in the wheel house for perfect IPA’s.
I was hooked after that first six pack, and wanted to continue to try all they had to offer. I mean RateaBeer.com gave it a 100/100. That’s unreal. Currently Stone has 7 different IPA’s out on the market so you are free to play with different tastes and different ALC/VOL. A great Stone to order if you are out to eat and having a cheesesteak or a nice burger would be Stone Go To IPA at only 4.5% ALC/VOL it’s very easy to drink. This brew is an alpha-acid-rich beer and will go perfect with a fatty grilled meat, it could be the perfect beer to pair with a steak.
Last but not least we have to at least talk about Arrogant Bastard. After its mass popularity AB was given its own brewery separated from Stone headquarters, but make no mistake it is very much still a Stone Brewery beer. The commercial description is ment to make you not want to try it “This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.” Once you finish it you feel special to be part of the select group that loves this ale. This reddish finish with a white foamy head is as delicious as they come and it packs a punch. Definitely a must try when browsing through your local liquor store and looking for something new to try out. Since becoming their own special brewery Arrogant Bastard has been able to play around with a few new types of their brew. They are all worth checking out as the flavor profiles are much different then the rest. Switch it up folks, try out some new brews. Stone Brewery has been around for twenty years now. If you haven’t jumped into the pool yet I’m not sure what you’re waiting for, the water is warm and the beer is great!
